Aman Lara is proud to launch our Path to Protection initiative — a dedicated initiative under our Global Refugee Support & Safe Passage Program. This targeted stream provides urgent, gender- and youth-responsive protection services for women, girls, and at-risk youth facing extreme and often invisible threats in displacement.

Beneficiaries may include survivors of gender-based violence, trafficking, forced or early marriage, honour-based violence, abduction, prolonged isolation, ethnic or religious persecution, statelessness, or systemic legal exclusion. We also support individuals with urgent or chronic health needs who are unable to access life-saving care due to documentation gaps, mobility restrictions, or protection-related risks.

Despite their heightened vulnerability, women, girls, and youth — particularly those who are LGBTQ+, from ethnic or religious minority communities, or living with disabilities — remain among the least likely to access formal protection systems. These intersecting identities compound risk and deepen exclusion, especially in environments where access to mobility, documentation, or male guardianship is restricted or denied outright. For adolescent girls in Afghanistan, barriers are especially acute: many are isolated in domestic settings, cut off from school beyond Grade 6, and denied access to the very systems meant to protect them.

In these contexts, isolation is not just physical — it is systemic and deeply gendered. It severs ties to education, community, identity, and hope. Without access to safe passage, legal protection, or trauma-informed care, many remain trapped in protracted states of fear and invisibility — unable to cross borders, register for asylum, or access life-saving supports, including medical care, psychosocial assistance, and a pathway back to learning.

Path to Protection seeks to dismantle these barriers with a rights-based, survivor-led response that restores agency, safety, and connection — while advancing broader feminist goals of justice, inclusion, and long-term recovery.

our commitment

At Aman Lara, we see these issues not only as humanitarian emergencies — but as solvable challenges requiring coordinated, rights-based responses. Aman Lara was founded to address precisely this kind of crisis.
